39 years have passed since Les Amis de l'ABC (mostly) died on the barricades. Now another generation is fighting desperately for its life in la Semaine Sanglante. Baron de Pontmercy, a Versailles government official, sits in his office and calls for "total expiation" - i.e. extermination of the enemy. But the past can touch the present in many ways...
