M Night Shyamalan's off-beat Hardy-esque drama
The Village captured my
imagination thanks to a gorgeous soundtrack, exquisite photography,
the spirited and appealing heroine Ivy (Bryce Dallas Howard) and the
tragic waif Noah (Adrien Brody). Somehow it has collided in my mind
with Werner Herzog's Kaspar Hauser: Every
Man for Himself and God Against All , which I saw about 20
years ago at the German Film Society in St Andrews. I began to
develop this slightly odd notion of Noah as a kind of Kaspar Hauser
figure in 'The Towns'. However, my intention is to give the lad a
happier ending...
