Unmarked Sites,
South Carolina
At many small-scale battle sites burial sites without named
markers have been identified. These are known to archaeologists, but
as they are not on protected official sites and need to be protected
from memorabilia-hunters, no geographical specifics will be
given.
John A. Morrow tells us of a place
where "only a dirt road winding through woods" leads to
scattered cairns which cover the remains of British Legion
troopers and comrades from regular regiments. Archaeological
investigation has revealed that the soil-type has completely eroded
any remains, however.
