Conrad of Montferrat, by Picot
(imaginary portrait by Picot, Salles des Croisades, Versailles:
he was really a blond!)

"In this, my fortieth year of age", far from having "drained the lees of my disgrace" (thanks, François!), I went to see Kingdom of Heaven (reviewed on this site and on IMDb) at the cinema, and in my mixture of irritation at the inaccuracies and delight at some of its better moments and performances, I remembered why I had so loved my 12C Special Subject... I dug out my trobador CDs (and got more!), got more books, and read some of the research that's been going on since 1987 or so... I attended my departmental reunion... I shed 20 years. I suppose it's like a mid-life crisis, when someone decides to contact Friends Reunited to catch up with a lover from First Year... Only I never dated actually breathing men. ;-D
But it's rejuvenating to rekindle a few 'old flames', whom I never really stopped loving, just put to one side for a few years... So enjoy the results here! (The title comes from The Cars, Let's Go: 'I like the night-life, baby'/ She said. As to the reason for the red and white colours on this section of the site - look at the shield held by our lovely poster-boy...)

Joglar

Who would you be
in the Middle Ages?

The Harlequin/Joglar

You scored 47% Cardinal, 46% Monk, 29% Lady, and 29% Knight! You are a mystery, a jack-of-all-trades. You have the king's ear, but also listen to murmurings of the common folk. You believe in the value of force and also literature. Truly you are the puzzlement of the age.

(Well, the last bit has been said of me before, not always so politely... And the King's ear isn't much good to me without the rest attached: I don't collect ears!)
